About Me

My photo
Hi, Welcome to my Blog. I'm an eclectic kind of crafter delving into many pots. I am just about managing to keep up my Scrapbooking Diary (usually about 6 months behind), plus any cards as required. I have a new found love of watercolour and Bible Journaling plus recently Junk Journaling too. Previously I've also dabbled in ATCs, Tags, Altered Books, Mixed Media, Art Journaling, Décopatch, Knitting, Crochet, and Embroidery amongst other things. I live in Surrey, UK with my husband, our son has left home now. For exercise I usually play Badminton and go Ballroom and Latin Dancing, but am plagued by a bad back. I like walking which I couple with Geocaching and sometimes Bouncing on my Rebounder (mini trampoline). I guess I am officially retired now. I am a born again Christian, currently worshiping at my local Vineyard Church.

WOYWW #378 - Olympics and Bibles

Strange title I know but this is just what is on my desk today.

Olympics - I was sorting out the old Radio Times to recycle and it reminded me that I was missing the Olympics so I cut out some memories and made a journal page.

My happiest moment was seeing our lads (Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis) win the Bronze in the Badminton men's doubles.

Some of you know I play badminton (socially) and run a little club but I have also been to the same club as Chris Langridge in Epsom and our local paper had this article too.

Bibles - A lady gifted me this box of Bibles and Hymnals which are too battered to pass on to a charity shop, so she wondered if I could use them for crafting.

I did give first refusal to my craft group but this raised the question of whether or not one ought to tear pages out of Bibles be they useable or not?

There are 5 Bibles, 3 Common Prayer/Hymnals and a Communion Book.

If you could let me know your thoughts on the subject and whether you are desperate for a page or two yourself (UK only), I'll see what I can do.

Happy WOYWW Everyone

My thoughts on the Bibles .... The Word of God is supposed to bless us so, when the book is beyond use, we keep the Word in our hearts by creating artworks with the pages. I love how Patsy HeARTworks uses her Bible but I could not do it to mine as it is in constant use but when it starts to fall apart .....
Love the journal page, the Olympics was such a happy time, I just hope we get a generous covering of the Paralympics.
Have a good week

I love the old Bibles - what about using the pages to make something where the words can still be read? Angels for Christmas tree? Bookmarks using verses. But I do love those battered covers too - too much thought needs a coffee. Have a great week x Jackie 14

Hi BJ, I remember reading on SCS that some ladies had a Bible journalling group- both taking pages out and then using the remains to journal/create art in. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #6xxx

Some good ideas and thoughts already expressed. But I will add that if I am using and pages from scripture I always make sure the mixed media work is consistent with the word.

Happy WOYWW. I am missing the Olympics too - great journal page. I played badminton as a teenager, but wouldn't be able to cope with all the running about now. Ali x #25

It felt so odd after the Olympics finished, to be watching "normal" tv programmes - I am only just adjusting now! Hope you decide what to do with your bibles - I know bible journalling is quite a big thing, but it seems a bit odd to me (even without a real faith) so I am not sure if I could do it... Helen #1

I would much sooner see the bibles and prayer books used in making something special than them ending up in a bin somewhere. Have a great woyww, Angela x 11

I think you could use just the pages. Maybe make some giftie things and spread the word of God.

My thoughts are similar, better used than thrown away, its not as if our art tends to be irreverent.Your desk looks neat considering the collage style of your fab Olympics page. It really was a wonderful fortnight, I loved every minute that I watched...and that was quite a lot!

I love your Olympics pages, what a wonderful reminder of a great fortnight and some magical moments.
I would say use the bibles and enjoy them - they've done their bit, and I would rather see them respectfully used in art than put in the bin!
Hope you have a lovely week,

great looking journal pages. The bibles are a quandary for some but people are using them all over the place for collages and journals. It is a book and when tattered and torn up you have two options…repurpose or trash it. I think I would repurpose it. You know Peggy and Patsy in the Philippines use bible in their works. Have a great week. Vickie #45
